Probably the question we get asked more than anything else is: “but what about Jax’s school?”
Sometimes it’s genuine curiosity. Sometimes it’s panic on our behalf. We’ve had every version of it at this point.
“Did the school approve it?” “Isn’t it illegal?” “What about socialisation?” “What about education?” “What happens when you go back?”
The funny thing is, before we left, we asked ourselves all the same questions too. We didn’t just wake up one morning, book flights and decide education no longer mattered.
If anything, we think about Jax’s education more now than we did before.
When people hear “worldschooling” they sometimes imagine children running barefoot through jungles learning maths from coconuts. That’s not really our reality.
Jax still does maths, English, spellings and times tables consistently. He uses an app called Doodle Learning for daily work, which has honestly been brilliant for us because he can do it anywhere. Airports, apartments, cafes, ferries, random hotel lobbies while we wait for rooms to be ready.
He also has three live lessons a week with Tuition Up, with real a teacher and real children, just virtually instead of physically sitting in a classroom.
