We didn’t plan for Imsouane to become the surf moment of our Morocco trip for Jax. It just sort of happened the way the best days do — no big expectations, no pressure, just a morning walk along the beach and a surf shop right there saying, “He can start today if he wants.”
Jax said yes immediately. No hesitation. He’d never surfed before. Not even close. And suddenly we were standing outside Reef Point, watching him pick a board that looked about twice his size.
This was his first ever surf lesson.
And then he booked a second one straight after.
Imsouane has this calm, slightly sleepy surf town energy. Nothing feels rushed. People are in wetsuits before breakfast. Boards are stacked outside cafés. Everyone seems to be either coming from the water or heading straight back into it.
For kids, it actually matters.
The waves in the morning were the key thing for us. Much gentler. More predictable. Less chaos. The instructors at Reef Point told us early mornings were best for beginners, and they were right.
Jax could actually stand up without feeling like the ocean was personally trying to fight him.
